Event Information
Newton’s Nation is Australia’s largest action sports and music festival run on the top of the iconic Mount Panorama at Bathurst, NSW.
There are over 500 competitors attending from around the world hoping to snare some of the $50,000 offered in prize money. The festival runs from Friday the 27th of April to Sunday the 29th of April 2012.
Now in it’s fourth year it is the home of the Australasian round of the International Gravity Sports World Cup. Here skaters, lugers and inline riders hurtle themselves down the Mount Panorama race track at speeds over 100km/hr. At the top of the mountain the Australian BMX freestyle title will be determined. Also represented are BMX flatland and park.
The NSW mountain bike series drops down the front of the mountain and this year mountain bike trials will debut. Scooter and skate street park courses hold competitions as well as parkour, free-running, Huffy sliders and mountain Boards.
Music is intertwined into the fabric of this festival with DJ’s and bands playing throughout the day. At night the mountaintop turns into a massive concert with some of Australia’s best hip hop and rock acts performing. Last year bands such as Bliss’n’Esso, Birds of Tokyo and You am I headlined with another 24 hrs of live music.
The event also invites spectators to bring their own bikes, scooters, or skateboards to try some of the courses and also have the option of attending coaching clinics run by a number of the sports. A luge and huffy slider course built directly for spectators to race their mates gives people a chance to experience these sports first hand.
Newton’s Nation is the ultimate ‘road trip’ destination, where you grab a bunch of mates, load up the car and head to inland NSW. The top of Mount Panorama is turned into a massive camp site, stores and markets are set up offering everything you need to experience an amazing festival experience. This year daylight screens will be installed so you can sit on the grass, watch all the down hill races while being entertained live music on stage.
